About Peter Weijs

Peter Weijs is a professor and chair of Nutrition and Movement. His work focuses on improving and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, particularly for individuals in vulnerable positions. With his research team, he develops and tests nutrition and exercise programmes that help with daily functioning and health recovery. He applies his expertise in areas such as overweight, obesity, muscle loss (sarcopenia), body composition, energy expenditure, and protein intake.

After completing his degree in Human Nutrition at Wageningen University (WUR) in 1986, Peter worked in the United States and Scotland. He completed his PhD in 1993 on the subject of protein requirements. Since 1994, he has been affiliated with the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS), where he founded the ANAC nutrition lab and has served as a professor since 2009.

From 2004 to 2023, he worked in the Department of Dietetics and Nutritional Sciences at Amsterdam UMC. In 2018, he was appointed professor at the Vrije Universiteit, and in 2023, he was once again appointed as an extraordinary professor. Peter leads the research group People in Motion, which explores innovative combinations of nutrition, exercise, and technology to sustainably improve health.
