Jesse is a physiotherapist and health scientist. In 2022, he obtained his PhD from the University of Amsterdam for his research into the physical functioning of elderly people after hospitalisation. He used various measuring instruments, including activity trackers, to identify early signs of recovery or deterioration in functioning.
Since 2021, Jesse has been leading the Smart Health and Vitality Lab at the Centre of Expertise Applied Artificial Intelligence (AUAS). Researchers at this lab work with innovative technologies in education and practice-oriented research, such as virtual reality, markerless motion capture and conversational AI.
Together with the SmartHouse Lab (ROC Amsterdam) and the ELLA Lab (Amsterdam UMC/University of Amsterdam), Jesse is building a network that supports people in the neighbourhood and promotes self-reliance. This network focuses on the future role of physiotherapists and other healthcare professionals in the home setting.
The research group focuses on preventing and reducing complaints, promoting health and reducing health inequalities. The main focus is on people in vulnerable positions within a neighbourhood. The research group also contributes to the education of future physiotherapists.
