Supervisory Board welcomes two new members

Supervisory Board

Two new members will join the Supervisory Board from 1 September: Manon Kluijtmans and Jaco van Goudswaard. They are succeeding, respectively, Valerie Frissen and Ron de Mos, whose terms are expiring. The new members were appointed for four years.

Manon Kluijtmans
Manon Kluijtmans, with the profile education and research, is professor of Education linking science and practice at Utrecht University Medical Centre. In this role, she works closely with higher professional education. She is also vice-rector of education at Utrecht University.

From 1 November, she was also appointed dean of University College Utrecht. Her experience is broad: education, leadership, governance, supervision and internationalisation. Kluijtmans was appointed as a member of the Supervisory Board on the recommendation of the Central Representative Advisory Council. Participation is close to her heart: in her student days, she herself was active in student and consultative bodies and later wrote about the importance of participation in university education.

'As a member of the Supervisory Board, I want to contribute to good governance, strategic policy and sustainable impact', says Kluijtmans. ‘Although most of my career is in academia, I have been collaborating closely with universities of applied sciences for years.’ ‘I look forward to making my contribution as a supervisor as well now.’

Jaco van Goudswaard
Jaco van Goudswaard is joining the Supervisory Board with a profile in operations, IT, and audit. Until March 2025, he was a member of the board of directors of BNG Bank, where he was responsible for information technology, data management, digital (AI) strategy and cybersecurity.

Digital transformation runs like a thread through his career. He also has extensive experience as a member of audit committees. His commitment to higher education is evident from, among other things, his guest lectureships at several universities.

'I would like to use my experience with complex change processes and digital strategies for the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences', Van Goudswaard said. ‘The ambition and social impact of AUAS align well with my personal beliefs.’

Reinforcement at a key moment
'We are extremely happy with the arrival of Manon and Jaco', says Supervisory Board chairman Gala Veldhoen. 'With their broad experience and up-to-date knowledge, they are strengthening our council at an important time for the AUAS. Together, we are stronger in shaping our supervision substantively, carefully, and with a future-oriented approach. We are deeply indebted to Valerie and Ron for their years of hard work, commitment and valuable contributions to the AUAS.'

Jopie Nooren adds, as chairman of the Executive Board: 'With Manon and Jaco, we are not only bringing in versatile expertise, but also a fresh perspective. As the Executive Board, we are confident that together with colleagues and with the involvement of the Supervisory Board, we can respond well to the challenges ahead. Valerie Frissen and Ron de Mos have enriched the AUAS in recent years with their keen insights. We are very grateful to them for that.'
