Generative AI Agent(s) for policy officers

-

The fast rise of generative AI (genAI) and autonomous AI agents is totally changing how digital services are designed and experienced. Designers and developers of digital services already have the necessary experience with genAI, especially for creating text and images. However, AI agents built into services and digital products are still very new. An AI agent is a system that independently observes, decides and acts to achieve goals within a specific environment. This is a partly unpredictable technology. Within this project, we are investigating how the application of AI agents in service provision influences the current design process and the associated tools.

The aim of this project is to investigate how the working methods of service designers change when they incorporate AI agents into their services. We are not looking at the (creative) application of AI tooling in the design process itself. In collaboration with designers, AI specialists and users, we are developing a research prototype of an AI-driven service that supports policy development. To this end, we are using a Research-Through-Design approach to develop an AI-supported service that takes into account the unpredictability and autonomy of genAI agents.
