Working together for a healthy Wildeman neighbourhood
Project
In the Wildeman neighbourhood in Amsterdam, many people have limited health literacy. The current healthcare and prevention system often does not reach this group well, even though they need a lot of support. This project builds on the approach of LION, a research project aimed at improving the lifestyle of vulnerable older people.
People with a low socio‑economic position live on average 8 years shorter and spend 24 years in poorer health. It is therefore extra important to support these people. In practice, this still does not work well. Reasons include lack of knowledge about care services, little money, language barriers and the fact that health is often not a priority.
This project aims to improve the lifestyle of vulnerable older people through an accessible meeting place: the lifestyle counter GO‑Osdorp. Here, residents, students and professionals work together on health, for example through advice on nutrition, physical activity and positive health.
Vitality Experience City farm Osdorp - vitality festival

Aims
- Expand GO‑Osdorp and strengthen its role in the neighbourhood.
- Increase collaboration between healthcare professionals (such as community nurses, physiotherapists and dietitians) and social professionals (such as community workers and health brokers).
- Strengthen cooperation with other projects, such as the Beweegbank, the Lang Leven Thuisflats and AUAS projects such as De Spelende Mens and Beweeg de Toekomst.
- Find out what residents and professionals need. We will use this for a new funding application.
Expected results
A stronger network around LION, more participants, more activities and better collaboration between healthcare, social care and AUAS projects. All this contributes to healthy ageing in Amsterdam Nieuw‑West.
