Theory of Change Krajicek Foundation
Project
The Krajicek Foundation increases opportunities for physical activity and personal development for children and young people in disadvantaged neighbourhoods. It does this through its Playgrounds initiative and Scholarship Programme. As part of this project, researchers are developing a Theory of Change (ToC). This model illustrates how the foundation’s activities contribute to social impact, thereby clarifying what works and why.
The Krajicek Foundation (opens in new window) aims to better underpin and strengthen its work in priority neighbourhoods. The organisation requires a coherent framework that demonstrates how its activities lead to results and social impact.
Researchers are therefore developing a Theory of Change. This model links mission, strategy and practice within a single, clear impact model. The Krajicek Foundation can use this model for evaluation, communication and policy development.
Through this Theory of Change, we demonstrate how sport and role models make a structural contribution to equal opportunities and quality of life in priority neighbourhoods.

Objective
To develop a well-founded Theory of Change that makes the social impact of the Krajicek Foundation transparent, measurable and replicable.
Method
The project combines document analysis of policy papers with analysis of existing impact data. Researchers are also collaborating with the Krajicek Foundation through co-creation. Based on this, they are developing a Theory of Change comprising activities, outcomes, outputs and impact. Researchers are refining the model step by step in consultation with the foundation and translating it into a practical impact model.
Expected results/outputs
- A fully developed Theory of Change for the Krajicek Foundation
- A visual ToC model
Social impact
The ToC strengthens the rationale for sport as a means of promoting equal opportunities, health and social cohesion in priority neighbourhoods. This leads to more targeted, effective social investments.
Contribution to education and research
The project provides a practice-oriented example of impact modelling within sport and social organisations. Students and researchers gain experience in policy analysis, the Theory of Change methodology and impact thinking. In this way, the project contributes to knowledge about social value creation in sport.
