Somaya Ben Allouch
Professor Digital Life – Expert in Human-Computer Interaction, Social Robotics and AI for Health & Wellbeing
Dr. Somaya Ben Allouch has been a professor of Digital Life at Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences since October 2018. She is also involved in the SIA-SPRONG project “People in Motion,” which focuses on promoting a healthy lifestyle and sustainable behavioral change through the use of creative technology. Since January 2021, Somaya has held the position of Distinguished Professor of “Human-System Interaction for Health and Wellbeing” at the University of Amsterdam (UvA). This chair was established by the Bèta Plus Foundation. Her expertise includes human-centered interaction and the acceptance and evaluation of technologies such as social robotics and wearables. She previously earned her Ph.D. from the University of Twente and worked as a visiting researcher at Stanford University. In addition, she participates in international research projects and serves on the editorial boards of scientific journals. In 2023, she was elected a fellow of the Netherlands Academy of Engineering.

Associate professor Child Technology Interaction - Expert child-technology interaction, social robotics, digital characters and interaction design for healthcare and education
Simone de Droog is Associate Professor of Child Technology at the Digital Life research group. Her work focuses on how technologies — such as social robots and digital characters — can positively and sustainably support children's development and wellbeing.

Bin Yu
Associate professor Interaction Design for Emerging Technology – Expert human-computer interaction, human-centred AI, health technology and the responsible design of emerging technologies
Bin Yu is Associate Professor at the Digital Life research group. He is a design researcher specializing in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and health technology. With a multidisciplinary background in biomedical engineering, industrial design, and HCI, he brings a unique perspective to his work. His research explores how emerging technologies like AI can be designed and applied responsibly to promote human wellbeing.
Leontine Born
Onderzoeks- en onderwijscoördinator | Digital Life
Drs. Leontine Born is onderzoeks- en onderwijscoördinator bij het lectoraat Digital Life Centre van Kenniscentrum FDMCI, waar zij onderzoek en onderwijs verbindt en onderzoekers ondersteunt op het gebied van marketing, PR, communicatie en organisatie. Ze zorgt voor nieuwsberichten, seminars en publicaties, denkt mee over maatschappelijk relevante onderzoeksthema's en versterkt samenwerkingen met consortiumpartners. Met haar bedrijfskundige achtergrond en ervaring als programmaontwikkelaar bij Focus Conferences (1998-2017), brengt ze een sterke organisatorische en commerciële focus. Gedreven door de thema's digitalisering, zorg en welzijn, zet zij zich in om de impact van onderzoek binnen en buiten de HvA te vergroten.

Lamia Elloumi
Onderzoeker bij het lectoraat Digital Life en docent bij de opleiding CMD
Lamia Elloumi richt zich in haar huidige onderzoek op eHealth, User Experience en Social Robotics. Ze is betrokken bij het onderzoeksproject 'Robotics in Healthcare' waar de sociale robots 'Karel' en 'Annabel' worden ingezet om ouderen in zorgcentra te helpen bij hun dagelijkse bezigheden.

Michel Oey
Onderzoeker / Software Engineer lectoraat Digital Life
Dr. Michel Oey is a lecturer and researcher at the Digital Life research group of the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, specializing in IT and well-being. With a PhD in Computer Science from VU University Amsterdam and prior experience as an Assistant Professor at Delft University of Technology, he has led multiple projects on large-scale socio-technical systems. His research focuses on innovative applications of IT, such as smart sensors and AI, to support health and well-being, addressing challenges like security, privacy, and usability. Currently, he works on projects like Hipper, a sensor-based platform for geriatric rehabilitation, and Guiding Environment, a smart home project for people with early dementia symptoms. Alongside his research, he teaches IT courses in the MakeITWork programme, supervises students in areas like IoT and healthcare technology, and is involved in developing a MSc. Cyber Security programme. Michel is driven by the goal of empowering people to take control of their well-being through IT innovations.
Anne Marleen Olthof
Docent - Onderzoeker
Ir. Anne Marleen Olthof is PhD-onderzoeker Human Enhancement for Health & Well-being aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam en de Universiteit Antwerpen. Haar onderzoek richt zich op hoe digitaal-fysieke producten het menselijk lichaam kunnen versterken om de kwaliteit van leven te verbeteren voor mensen met een progressieve of permanente handicap. Geïnspireerd door haar eigen ervaringen met ondersteunende technologie tijdens haar jeugd, studeerde zij Industrial Design Engineering aan de TU Delft en ontwikkelde een passie voor mens-machine interactie. Naast haar onderzoek doceert Anne Marleen Immersive Design XR aan de Hogeschool van Amsterdam, waar ze medeoprichter is van het XR-lab. Ze heeft meer dan tien jaar ervaring als designdocent en is gastdocent in Mixed Reality en eXtended Reality in Oostenrijk en België.

Tamara Pinos Cisneros
PhD Candidate Digital Life
Ir. Tamara Verónica Pinos Cisneros MSc is a PhD candidate at the Digital Life and Play and Civic Media lectorates and an Instrument Developer at the Digital Society School of the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences. Her research specializes in using Smart-toys and playfulness to motivate children with cerebral palsy to engage in hand therapy. With a background in Computer Engineering and a master’s in Media Technology, Tamara combines her technical expertise and passion for technology’s positive impact, as demonstrated in her research projects such as Toys4Health and Toys4Therapy at home. Her teaching includes prototyping and creative applications of technology, while her previous roles span software development, entrepreneurship, and coaching multidisciplinary teams at MediaLAB Amsterdam. She is currently pursuing her PhD at the University of Twente, focusing on behavior change techniques applied to Smart-toys.
Saskia Robben
Onderzoeker Zorg en nieuwe technologie (Care4Balance) en hoofddocent Learning Community 'Applied AI'
Saskia Robben, MSc. is onderzoeker en projectleider bij het lectoraat Digital Life van de Hogeschool van Amsterdam, gespecialiseerd in zorg en technologie. Haar onderzoek richt zich op het ontwikkelen van analysemethoden met omgevings- en draagbare sensoren om gezondheid thuis te meten en innovatieve interfaces om deze data begrijpelijk te maken voor verschillende gebruikers. Gedreven door de wens om Kunstmatige Intelligentie in te zetten voor betere zorg, werkt ze aan projecten zoals De Interactieve Woonkamer, een prototype dat thuiswonende mensen met dementie ondersteunt bij hun dagstructuur. Daarnaast is Saskia actief als docent bij HBO-ICT, waar ze onderwijs geeft in AI-algoritmes, data-analyse en zorgtechnologie. Ze behaalde haar master Kunstmatige Intelligentie/Cognitiewetenschap aan de Radboud Universiteit Nijmegen en heeft ervaring met sociale robotica en diagnostische systemen.
Monique Schaule Jullens
Programmamanager
Monique Schaule Jullens is programmamanager bij het lectoraat Digital Life van Kenniscentrum Create-IT. Ze adviseert en ondersteunt bij het aanvragen, inrichten en beheren van nationale en Europese onderzoeksprojecten. Met een verbindende rol tussen lectoren, onderzoekers, interne afdelingen, consortiumpartners en subsidieverstrekkers, zorgt ze ervoor dat projecten succesvol gefinancierd en uitgevoerd worden. Monique zet haar talent voor organisatie en procesmanagement in om de hogeschool optimaal te ondersteunen bij het aanvragen en beheren van subsidies. Ze studeerde ontwikkelingseconomie aan de Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam en deed veldonderzoek in Zuidoost-Azië. Voor haar tijd bij de HvA werkte ze onder andere als Strategisch Marketeer bij KPN en als Billing Manager bij Unisource. Bij TNO deed ze brede internationale ervaring op in programma-management en business development.
