HERI is a pan-university research department focused on connections between education, research and professional practice. Increasingly these connections are positioned in transdisciplinary environments, such as living labs, studio’s and hubs. The research group works from five themes: 1. Transdisciplinarity, 2. Professionalism, 3. Research-education nexus, 4. Curriculum Co-creation and 5. Change in higher education.
The HERI lectorate, together with Leiden University and Anton de Kom University of Suriname, obtained funding from the Twinning budget of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to improve the research skills of lecturers at Anton de Kom University in Paramaribo.
How do professional practice and research come together in an integrated curriculum? And how can teachers, researchers and students jointly design such an integrated curriculum? We do several projects on co-creation of curricula.
In today's times, professionals are needed who can handle up-to-date knowledge and innovate their profession. However, it is not enough for research and teaching to coexist in universities of applied sciences. We examine which organisational structure and culture promote or restrict the connection between research and teaching in universities of applied sciences.
This open access book by Didi Griffioen compiles and builds on international knowledge on change in higher education and on the relationship between research and education. Rather than simply compiling this knowledge, this book offers a thorough insight into change trajectories towards sustainable hybrid higher education organisations.
