Leonieke Boendermaker (1961) is a Professor of Child & Youth Social Care. Her work focuses on the development, implementation, quality and effectiveness of youth care. The Research Group has special attention for residential care and care for young people with serious behavioural problems.

Leonieke studied (Social) Pedagogy at the University of Amsterdam and also satisfied the requirements for the initial university degree ( doctoraal) in methods and techniques of social sciences at Leiden University. Leonieke obtained her doctorate in 1999 with a study on population and working methods of youth correctional institutions at Utrecht University. She previously worked as a researcher in the Research and Documentation Centre (WODC) of the Ministry of Justice, at De Lindenhorst state institution and in the Youth department of the Netherlands Youth Institute (NJi).

She has been a professor at the AUAS since February 2010. Until 2015, she combined the Research Group with the position of researcher and lecturer in the Department of Orthopedagogy, Youth Care section of the University of Groningen.
