Mr M.N. Breedijk (Martin)
Lecturer-researcherMartin Breedijk works at the AUAS as project leader for the upcoming Associate degree Sport, graduation profile Topsport- and Talentcoach. At the bachelors Sportkunde - leerroute SM&O and Sport Studies - track ISMB he is lecturer in Qualitative Research and Support Teams and graduation supervisor. He is also involved in the Erasmus+ research project STARTING11. In recent years Martin has taught courses such as (Qualitative) Research, Training Theory, Endurance Sports Practice and Coaching at Sportkunde - leerroute SM&O and Sport Studies - track ISMB.
After secondary school, Martin graduated in 1990 from the Academie voor Lichamelijke Opvoeding (ALO) in Amsterdam. He then completed a Master's degree in Culture, Organisation and Management at the Vrije Universiteit (VU) in Amsterdam. At the same time, Martin made his breakthrough as a triathlete in 1992 with a fifth place as a debutant at the Dutch Championships for Full Triathlon, which earned him a semi-professional contract.
Highlights of Martin's career: a second place at the 1996 Dutch Championships and participation as a professional in the Triathlon Mecca in 1998. After working for various organisations, Martin started teaching endurance sports at Sportkunde - leerroute SM&O in 2000.
From 2011 to 2020 Martin was vice president of the Dutch Triathlon Federation. Since 2016 he is a member of the Executive Board of Europe Triathlon and since 2021 as Vice President. He also became a member of the Paratriathlon Committee of World Triathlon in 2020. In addition to these activities, Martin is still active as a triathlete. In short, triathlon is his work, hobby and voluntary work. He relaxes with a good book by, for instance, A.F.Th. van der Heijden or Marieke Lucas Rijneveld.
