Dr Walther Ploos van Amstel of the AUAS Faculty of Technology has been professor in City Logistics at Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences since September 2014.

He was professor of Logistics at the Netherlands Defence Academy in Breda and Den Helder from 2002 to 2009. He spent over 25 years working as an organisational consultant in the areas of logistics, supply chain management and international distribution. He focuses on logistics process innovations, cooperation in logistics chains and networks, service logistics, sustainable logistics, chain management and zero-emission city logistics.

Among other things, Walther is currently running a Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) accelerator programme known as ITSLOG. This project focuses on the use of ITS for city logistics, with Ahold Delhaize, Peter Appel Transport and Simacan as partners from professional practise. Walther also heads the Dutch section of the ERANET SAILOR project on innovation in last mile logistics and the RAAK SME research into the use of light electric vehicles in city logistics. He participates in the JPI Urban CIVIC project on construction logistics in European cities (Amsterdam, Brussels, Stockholm, Gothenburg and Vienna). On behalf of the AUAS, Walther is also project leader of the Dinalog TKI project 4C control tower applications in construction logistics.

Walther is a member of the Green Deal Logistics in Construction and Green Deal Zero Emission City Logistics steering committee and an ambassador for PraktijkProef Amsterdam (traffic management).
