Martijn Stuiver (1973) graduated from the AUAS in 1997 with a degree in Physiotherapy. In the same year he joined the Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI), as a clinical physiotherapist. Today, he is a senior researcher at the Institute's center for Quality of Life. In addition to his clinical and research work at the NKI, Martijn has held several other posts. Between 2003 and 2006 he launched the country's first oncology physiotherapy degree programme at what is now Avans+ in Breda.

From 2005 to 2007, Martijn Stuiver was enrolled in the MSc programme in Evidence Based Practice at the AMC-UvA, graduating cum laude. In 2009 he was appointed as assistent professor in this programme; currently he is senior lecturer and vice-principal. Combining teaching, research and physiotherapy practice Martijn pursued a PhD at the University of Amsterdam, on the topic of morbidity after lymph node dissection in cancer patients, which he completed in 2014 (supervised by Prof. Neil Aaronson, professor of Quality of Life in Chronic and Life-threatening Illnesses, and Prof. Patrick Bossuyt, professor of Clinical Epidemiology).

As a board member of the Onconet foundation (, Stuiver is committed to improving the quality of and access to physiotherapy care that helps cancer patients maintain and recover physical fitness during and after treatment. Onconet maintains a registry of physiotherapists who meet its specific criteria for oncology education and refresher training. Onconet also helps develop education and training content in partnership with the Dutch Institute for Allied Healthcare (Nederlands Paramedisch Instituut, NPi).
