Statement from the representative advisory councils about AMFI

30 Jun 2021 14:15 | Representative Advisory Councils

The combined representative advisory councils of the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS), consisting of the Study Programme Committee of the Amsterdam Fashion Institute (OC-AMFI), Participation Council of the Faculty of Digital Media and Creative Industries (FDMCI) and the Central Representative Advisory Council (CMR), have taken note of the contents of the Bezemer & Schubad report on the culture at AMFI. We are saddened the outcome of the investigation has confirmed our worries about an unsafe work and study environment for both students, lecturers and staff.

Bezemer & Schubad report about AMFI

We understand that this has a huge impact on AMFI alumni, students and teachers alike and recognize that it will take a lot of time and effort to restore trust in AMFI. We believe that they all should be able to learn, work and research in a safe environment at AMFI. Therefore AUAS needs to allocate sufficient resources to support this process.

The combined representative advisory councils will continue to support task force AMFI, manager Dirk Reynders, and the Dean of FDMCI in reevaluating the program and driving the transformation to a safe environment for teachers, staff and students. We recognize there is still a lot of work to be done and we are aware that this safe work and study environment can only be created when all partners work alongside each other so the trust in AMFI and the AUAS can be restored.

The combined representative advisory councils will initiate an oversight committee for social safety. We will make it our priority to monitor progress closely and will hold all management layers accountable for effecting change.
