Dutch Applied AI Award

The Dutch Applied AI Award is one of the awards presented during the annual Computable Awards. Since 2020, our Centre of Expertise Applied AI together with Computable and podcast De Dataloog has been rewarding an innovative initiative in the field of applied Artificial Intelligence, and we are proud of it!

This year, we will be presenting the award for the sixth time. Our award is a jury award and not an audience award. There are several reasons behind that choice, such as wanting to minimize the influence of large companies with potentially many voters. From all the entries, the jury will choose a top three. The winner will be chosen on Tuesday, November 18, 2025 at the Computable Awards ceremony in the Jaarbeurs Utrecht.

The application period is unfortunately closed. You could submit your initiative for the Dutch Applied AI Award 2025 until Monday, June 16.

Selection Criteria

The jury - consisting of five experts in the field of Applied AI - evaluates all entries on three criteria:

  • Applied AI - to what extent has the solution already been implemented, is it being used by the intended target group, and how large is the number of (potential) customers/number of people directly or indirectly helped by this innovation.
  • Uniqueness - to what extent is the innovation the only one of its kind, has it never been marketed before, and cannot the goal of the innovation be achieved in any other way.
  • Responsible AI (transparency, privacy, fairness, etc.) - to what extent is the AI algorithm designed or used transparent. Does it allow the user to be accountable and clear about the factors that influence algorithmic decisions.

Guest lecture at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences

In March 2025, Jeroen de Ridder (winner 2024 with Sturgeon) and Elisabeth Huis in 't Veld (runner-up with AINAR.io) met at the AUAS to give a guest lecture on their AI application. How did they come up with the idea? What challenges have there been? (How) do they want to further develop the AI application?
