Sabine Niederer
Professor Visual Methodologies – Expert visual research methods, digital culture, online image analysis and participatory research
Dr. Sabine Niederer is Professor of Visual Methodologies at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, where she leads the Visual Methodologies Collective. Her work focuses on developing visual methods for applied research into pressing social issues, with a special interest in the role of images in digital culture and media.

Carlo Gaetano
Designer and researcher
De Gaetano De Gaetano is a designer and researcher at the Visual Methodologies research group of the FDMCI Knowledge Centre. He specializes in information visualization and artistic participatory research with a focus on climate imaginaries. He works on projects such as Climate Imaginaries at Sea, which explores sea level rise through artistic and participatory research methods, and EPIC-WE, which engages young people in creatively imagining societal challenges through games. In his practice-based research, he combines generative AI, visual methods, and data feminist principles to challenge dominant narratives about human–nature relationships. With a background in Communication Design (Politecnico di Milano), he has broad experience in data visualization, digital research methods, and climate fiction. His work offers new perspectives on living with other species in a changing climate, and he welcomes collaboration around data visualization, generative AI, and climate imagination.

Maarten Groen
Lecturer Researcher
Maarten Groen, MSc, is a lecturer and researcher at the Visual Methodologies and Responsible IT research groups at Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, focusing on the collection and analysis of urban data. He develops tools and methods for collecting and analysing data in collaboration with residents, and works on projects such as Urban Belonging, which focuses on citizen empowerment, and Building for Well-being, which analyses urban areas using image recognition and street view photos. As a lecturer at HBO-ICT, Maarten coordinates projects in which students develop web applications for clients. With a background in Information Studies (Human Centred Multimedia) from the University of Amsterdam, he enjoys delving into technological innovations, with a critical eye on their social impact.
