The INAIR 2015 Conference was hosted by the Aviation Academy of the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS) and the Air Transport Department of University of Žilina on the 12th-13th of November in Amsterdam. The conference focused on exchanging ideas between industry and academia and discussing mutual challenges. The program consisted of 34 speakers from various aviation companies, airports, universities and governmental agencies.

More than 90 aviation professionals, academics and students attended the conference. They were representing 20 different nationalities from all over the world. The Aviation Academy of the AUAS takes a leading role if it comes to internationalisation and networking with other universities and companies.

The main theme of this conference was 'innovation'. Amongst the keynotes were different topics such as research challenges in air traffic management, airport typology, airport decision support, the future of hub systems, and efficient airports. After the first day of the conference, all speakers and guests were invited to join the Amsterdam ArenA stadium tour and a networking dinner.

During the peer-reviewed paper sessions mostly academic research results were presented. The research findings focused on airport capacity simulations through model-based approaches and algorithms. Amongst these presentations were some of the following topics: a shortest path algorithm for airport ground operations, revisiting airport TMA routes, an algorithm for gate assignment problems, identification of operative problems using a model-based approach for Lelystad Airport.

The limelight of this conference was the signing of a special Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Eleven aviation programmes in Europe and across the globe are now working closely together in the areas of education, research and partnerships with the aviation industry. This collaboration has created a powerful network of like-minded Aviation universities, which form major partners in the field of aeronautics and air transport. The new network is called the Air Transport and Aeronautics Education and Research Association (ATAERA).

All in all, the INAIR 2015 conference was a successful conference in which professionals of aviation companies and universities gained new knowledge as well as nice to know facts about innovation in aviation capacity. Next to the knowledge exchange, the networking moments provided a great opportunity to discuss future cooperation.

The next edition of the INAIR conference series will be held in Vienna on the 10 th and 11 th of November in 2016!
