Supervising an intern
Supervising an intern is a significant responsibility for both us and you. Together, we aim to ensure the quality of the internship experience, providing these young professionals with the best possible guidance. To achieve this, we've established a few criteria that will help us set them on the right path at the start of their careers.
Criteria internship organisation
If you would like to supervise an Sport Studies intern, your organisation must:
- Operate within the 'world of sport,' ensuring that the internship assignment also takes place within this domain.
- Provide a workplace within your organisation for the intern, with at least 75% of the internship conducted on-site.
- Be a professional organisation and not a volunteer organisation (unless you are demonstrably a professional organisation with (paid) employees working during the day). This requirement only applies to internships in the 2nd year of study.
- Have a minimum of 3 (paid) employees, with one designated as the student supervisor.
- Offer demonstrably sufficient and representative operational work that develops relevant skills for the intern and is valuable for your organisation.
- Ensure the internship supervisor has at least a higher vocational education (HBO) level of work and/or thinking, and is committed to providing regular, constructive feedback to the intern.
- Ensure the internship supervisor has at least 3 years of experience as a sport manager.
Number of interns
- A maximum of 2 students may do an internship at the same time.
- The Internship Office may make exceptions if you have a well-founded reason, which will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
- If a third student is allowed to intern at your organisation, this student must be supervised by someone other than the supervisor of the first 2 interns.
Internship possibilities Sport Studies
Sport Studies-track ISMB students have the opportunity to go on 3 international internships at sport organisations throughout their academic career. Each year, the internships become more strategic, culminating in a graduation project where students identify, research, and provide solutions to a specific issue.
