How much time is required for this degree programme?

Read more about the number of contact hours in the first year, the number of hours you will spend on independent study and the binding study advice (BSA).

The average study workload in the Fashion & Textile Technologies programme at AMFI is around 40 hours per week, although this number may be exceeded during peak times. These hours consist of contact hours and independent study.

Contact time

AFMI students can expect a minimum of 15 contact hours per week in the first year. Amongst other activities, contact time at AFMI is spent on workshops, toolshops, lectures, coaching and assessments. Contact hours are 50-minute teaching hours. Lessons are scheduled between 8.30 am and 6.30 pm. However, some classes may also be scheduled in the evening.

Self-study

In addition to the scheduled contact time, you will spend around 25 hours a week working independently or with your fellow students on projects or research, carrying out assignments and preparing for lessons and assessments by means of self-study.

Binding study advice (BSA)

Each academic year, you can earn 60 credits. One credit equals 28 hours of study. If you obtain fewer than 45 credits in the first year of the programme, AUAS will issue you with a negative binding study advice (BSA). This means you will not be able to continue the programme. You will then meet with your coach or academic adviser to discuss whether another degree programme would be more suitable for you.
