Admission
The Master’s programme Sport Business & Leadership accepts 60 students each year. Due to the limited number of study places, a selection is part of the admission procedure. Read more about the admission requirements on this page.
Apply to the Master Sport Business & Leadership by meeting these 3 key requirements:
- Relevant Bachelor's degree
- C1-level English
- Complete portfolio (CV, motivation, video, proposal)
1. Educational background
You need to hold a Bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields:
- Sport Studies (Sportkunde)
- Sport Management
- Sport Business
- Sport Marketing
2. English language proficiency
You must demonstrate proficiency in English at C1 level (understanding, writing, and speaking). You may be exempted from this requirement, see section 'Exemptions from English language tests' below.
The following test results are automatically accepted by the Central Student Administration:
- TOEFL iBT (Test of English as a Foreign Language):
Minimum overall score of 92, with at least 21 in each section. - IELTS (Academic version):
Minimum overall score of 6.5. - University of Cambridge certificates:
Either the Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) or the Certificate in Advanced English (CAE), with grades A–C (overall score between 180–199).
Exemptions from English language tests
You are exempted from the above-mentioned English language tests if you meet one of the following requirements:
- You have followed your previous education (high school and/or higher education) with English as the sole language of instruction in the following countries: Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the UK, and the USA.
- You have taken the International Baccalaureate in English and European Baccalaureate L1 and L2 in the English language.
- You are a student from the English-taught Bachelor's degree Sport Studies.
Important notes:
- Test centres may take up to 6 weeks to issue official results after you take the IELTS or TOEFL test.
- If your results are not yet available at the time of your application, you may upload proof of test registration (a scan of your registration confirmation).
- Final test results must be submitted no later than 31 August. The Admissions Committee will verify your results on the official IELTS or TOEFL website.
- Other forms of proof (e.g. university exams or alternative English tests) may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
3. Application portfolio
You are required to upload a portfolio that includes the following:
- A copy of your Bachelor’s degree (or expected graduation date if not yet completed)
- Your CV/resumé highlighting relevant experience in the sport industry
- One or more recommendation letters from lecturers and/or employers
- A list of courses and grades, with a short explanation of key subjects (max. 300 words)
- A summary of your thesis or final graduation project (max. 250 words)
- A motivation video (1 minute) with a link to an online platform (e.g. YouTube)
- A consulting assignment proposal (max. 1 page), including:
- 2 organisations you would like to work with
- Contact persons (if available)
- A brief explanation of why you selected these organisations
Depending on your undergraduate degree, level of English proficiency, and visa status, the admission timeline may vary. We strongly recommend applying well before the deadline and uploading all required documents as early as possible.
