Joint Inquiry-Based Working - Professional Doctorate Project

-

Teacher teams within the Carmel College Foundation regularly encounter situations for which there are no standard solutions. Teachers make decisions based on experience or intuition. Conducting research is not an integral part of their working method and culture. Consequently, there is no connection between practical and scientific knowledge, or it is not used efficiently and effectively. This results in significant insights from scientific research remaining underutilized, and innovations in educational practice struggling to materialize. Joint inquiry-based working (JIW) is essential for innovation and improving education.

Project Methodology

In Joint Inquiry-Based Working, teachers collectively study a practical issue, drawing on both practical and scientific knowledge. They then reflect on their approach, actions, consequences, and the insights they have gained.

Meijerink investigates through which targeted interventions JIW can be successfully implemented in teacher teams. She also examines how the structure, culture, and processes within the school can be optimally organized to strengthen joint inquiry-based working. This Professional Doctorate (PD) trajectory contributes to innovation and improvement in education, which is urgently needed due to its societal impact.

Within the professionalization trajectory for the PD candidate, she focuses on developing her organizational sensitivity, enhancing her systemic perspective, and situationally learning to address urgent issues. She will also gain a sharper understanding of and develop her influence on her own role and stance.
