Collect your residence permit
Collecting your residence permit card is one of the last steps in the immigration procedure. With your residence permit card you are entitled to study at AUAS and you will be living legally in the Netherlands. It allows you to enter and exit the Netherlands and travel through the Schengen area. Your stay in other Schengen countries is limited to a maximum period of 90 days.
Important: municipal registration and my residence permit
Registering with the municipality and obtaining your residence permit are different and separate procedures, but both are mandatory. Failing to register with the municipality may result in the loss of your residence permit.
How do I collect my residence permit?
Collect my residence permit during the summer pick-up days
The IND (Immigration and Naturalisation Service of the Netherlands) will be organising centralised collection days for students who will begin their studies in September 2026. These collection days will take place at the Jaarbeurs (Beatrixgebouw) in Utrecht. The address is Jaarbeursplein 6, 3521 AL Utrecht. The collection days will take place on the following days:
- Saturday, 29 August 2026
- Saturday, 19 September 2026
The IND will request for students to book a time slot during these collection days once their residence permit application has been approved this summer. As soon as we receive more information from the IND about how they will be organising these days, we will inform students by email to ensure students will be able to reserve a time slot on time.
Collect my residence permit at the IND during the rest of the year
You will receive an email from AUAS Immigration Affairs when your residence permit is ready for collection at the IND-office. This email explains how you can schedule an appointment online. When going to the IND desk, don’t forget to bring your passport! Keep in mind that it is not always possible to visit an IND desk at short notice.
Even without your residence document, you have the rights associated with your residence permit. Your residence permit rights are in the letter with the decision on your application (kennisgeving). This letter will be sent to you by AUAS Immigration Affairs in the ‘immigration procedure update’ email, as soon as we receive it from the IND. Your residence document will remain at the IND desk until you have an appointment to collect it.
Biometrics for my residence permit
Only applicable if you have the nationality of one the following countries: Australia, Canada, Japan, Monaco, New Zealand, Vatican City, USA, South Korea and the United Kingdom.
For your residence permit, the IND requires your biometrics (passport photo, fingerprints and signature). If the IND needs your biometrics, AUAS Immigration Affairs will send you an email with more information about how and when to schedule an appointment.
