Getting started

Welcome to the AUAS! This page provides all the practical information you need to start the academic year off strong.

Finalise your enrolment

  • Have you already paid your tuition fees and taken all the steps necessary to finalise your enrolment? Check your Enrolment Checklist to see if you missed anything.
  • You need to complete all the steps before you can start your degree programme in September.
  • Your enrolment is official when you receive a notification of Proof of Enrolment, which will be sent to your @hva.nl email address.

AUAS ID and password

  • With your AUAS ID and password, you have access to AUAS's websites, systems, apps and computers.
  • After enrolling at AUAS, you will receive a welcome email containing your AUAS ID (username).
  • Your AUAS ID is a combination of your first name and surname. Don’t get it confused with your student ID number (50xxxxx) or your AUAS email address.
  • At id.student.hva.nl you can activate your AUAS ID. If you have forgotten your password or want to change it, go also to this page.
  • Please keep in mind that when your private email address is mentioned, this is the address you are registered with in Studielink.
  • More information about activating your AUAS ID and changing or resetting your password.

Student ID card

You can use your student ID card to:

  • Confirm your identity when attending classes and when using study centres at all AUAS locations.
  • To identify yourself at online exams.
Only if you do not have a student ID card, you can identify yourself with a valid identity card. For online exams, the BSN must not be visible on the screen.
Please note: for exams on location only an ID card or passport is considered as a valid proof of identity, not a student card!
  • Borrow books from the university library or the university of applied sciences library.
  • Check all information about your student ID card and how to apply.

Please note: if you don’t live in the Netherlands, your student ID card will not be sent to your home address. It will be ready for you to collect from one of the AUAS service points.

Sport Studies Introduction Week

  • The Sport Studies academic year begins with the introduction week from Monday 24 to Thursday 27 August 2026.
  • You will stay overnight for 3 nights.
  • Please keep these dates free in your diary.

In July, you will receive an email from the programme with all the practical information.

During the introduction week you will get to know your classmates and familiarise yourself with the programme. First-, second- and third-year students organise the week. We highly encourage all students to join the introduction week.

Do you have any questions or are you unable to attend? Please send an email to the Introduction week committee: [email protected].

Please put ‘Sport Studies introduction week’ in the subject line.

AUAS Experience

  • Kickstart your student life at the AUAS Experience in the Kohnstamm building! Join us on Thursday 27 August between 12:30 PM and 4:00 PM for the introduction event for all first-year students.
  • Discover what the AUAS has to offer, find out where you can go with questions or personal circumstances, and get a taste of the Amsterdam student life. Stop by interactive stands, take part in activities and games, and find your way around campus.

Visit the AUAS Experience

Reading list

  • From early July, your reading list for blocks 1 and 2 will be available on hbo.athenaeum.nl (opens in new window).
  • Order your books in good time. This way you will not still be waiting for books at the end of your holiday.

Laptop

  • You need your own laptop for your studies at the AUAS.
  • A Windows laptop or an Apple MacBook are both fine.

A power bank for your laptop is useful. Then you are not dependent on power sockets in the Dr. Meurer building (DMH).

Locker hire

In many AUAS buildings you can rent a locker for a year.
The conditions and arrangements differ per location.

Do you want to rent a locker in the Dr. Meurer building?
Then read more about lockers in the Dr. Meurer building (opens in new window) (log in with your HvA-ID).

Two-step verification

  • When logging into AUAS systems and apps two-step verification (MFA) is needed. This is an extra security measure that helps ascertain the identity of the person logging in with a greater degree of certainty.
  • How does it work? After logging in with your AUAS-ID and password you confirm with the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device that you are logging in.
  • Setting up? See two-step verification (opent in nieuw venster) for a detailed instruction.

Email

When you start studying at AUAS you will get your own AUAS email. Here you will receive all important messages from your teachers and from AUAS.

  • Go to Outlook (opent in nieuw venster) to check your email.
  • Login with your AUAS email address. Use the same password from your AUAS-ID.
  • First set up your two-step verification, otherwise you cannot open your email.
  • Note: At the start of your degree programme, messages to your AUAS email account are automatically forwarded to your private email address. Turn this forwarding off as soon as your enrolment becomes final. This will prevent important messages from ending up in your spam folder. To do so, go to id.hva.nl/details and untick ‘Forwarding address’.

Software

At AUAS, you can use various software for your studies free of charge.

  • With Microsoft 365, you have access to the latest version of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, among others. You also get 1 terabyte of storage space in OneDrive and can collaborate online on files with Microsoft Teams. Visit mijnhva.nl/Microsoft365 (opent in nieuw venster) for more information.
  • Through apps.hva.nl, you can use software installed on AUAS computers for free on your own computer. Check software and apps for a complete overview.
  • At the same page you can also find even more apps, software, and other digital tools to support your studies.
  • Need to purchase software? Surfspot (opent in nieuw venster) offers discounts on many software and hardware products, including laptops and smartphones.

Wi-Fi

  • You have fast and secure internet access to all AUAS information systems through the 'hva' or 'eduroam' network.
  • Follow the steps to set up the Wi-Fi and you will automatically connect to the network at all AUAS locations from then on.

EduVPN

When you use a public or unsecured Wi-Fi network – such as in a café, library, your student residence or a hotel – your connection is vulnerable. With eduVPN, you can always use the Internet securely, even outside AUAS.

Housing

For students coming from outside the Netherlands, the AUAS offers to help with housing. Be aware: rooms are limited! You will receive an email with more information in June. Don’t forget to check the location of the room you choose. Our campus is located at Dokter Meurerlaan 8 in Amsterdam. Read more about housing.

Sport medical examination

Have you accepted the place offered to you? If so, you will receive an invitation for the sport medical examination in late May/early June. This takes approximately 2 hours and will take place between 22 – 26 June. If you live abroad your sport medical examination will be on Friday 28 August, the day after the introduction week.
