Find out the registration process for the 21+-entrance examination, including costs, documents and key dates.

How to register

Register for the 21+-entrance examination(opens in new window)

You registration will only be processed if all of the required fields have been completed and the requested documents attached. All correspondence will be by email. To this end, ensure that you have filled in your email address correctly.

Below you can see the exam schedule for the subject tests.

Once your digital application has been successfully completed, you will receive an automatic confirmation of receipt. Then you will receive the conformation in a separate email.

No later than five days prior to the day of the test, you will receive an invitation with the examination time, the location and any other information that you may require.

With your registration you need to upload the following documents:

  • A copy of a valid identity card (a passport, a drivers license, a residence permit or a foreign passport).
  • If you want to apply for exam time extension and/or additional resources:
    • A copy of a statement form a recognized professional indicating that you are eligible for exam time extension and/or additional resources.
  • If you want to apply for an exemption:
    • A copy of the document on the basis of which your exemption appears.

If the exam time extension, additional resources or exemption is approved or not, this will be indicated in your conformation of registration.

Registration for degree programme

Your registration to participate in the 21+-entrance examination is unrelated to your enrolment in the degree programme. You will have to enrol in the degree programme in time via Studielink. Read more about the international admissions.

Costs of the 21+-entrance examination

The 21+-entrance examination costs € 185,-. This sum is regardless of the number of tests * that you will sit (also in case of partial exemption) and includes any resits that you take.

For the test round of 13 May 2023 the costs are € 125,-. This sum is regardless of the number of tests that you will sit (also in case of partial exemption). With this round you are not entitled to a resit. Not for the subject test and not for the language test.

You can register twice a year. If you register for the second time, you will need to pay the full amount again. Regardless of the number of tests that you will sit in.

A mark of a 6 or higher are valid for two academic years.

How to pay

You can pay with iDEAL or by credit card (Mastercard and Visa). The participation fee must be paid before you register for the 21+-entrance examination.

Which documents do I need to send with my registration?

Upload the following when registering:

  • a copy of a valid ID (Dutch passport, Dutch ID card, driving licence, residence permit or foreign passport).

If you want to request extra exam time and/or extra exam aids, also include:

  • a copy of a statement of a registered professional indicating that you are eligible for an examination time limit extension and/or additional examination aids. If your exemption or examination time limit extension is approved, it will always be reported in your registration confirmation.

Changing or cancelling a test date

Changing a test date

It is possible to change your test date to one later in the same academic year if it is requested in an email prior to the deadline for registering and deregistering.

If you want to change the test date after the deadline for registering and deregistering, it will only be possible if there are exceptional circumstances (e.g. illness, an accident, circumstances beyond your control involving public transport or weather conditions).

Changing your registration to a different academic year is not possible.

Cancelling a test

When registering for the 21+-entrance examination, the AUAS General Conditions of Sale for private clients are applicable.

  • Within two weeks of registration, the registration may be cancelled at no extra costs.
  • If you cancel after this period, the following applies:
Up until six weeks before test€125
Between six and three weeks before test€87.50 (= 50% of fee)
Between three weeks and one week before test€43.75 (= 25% of fee)
One week before testNo restitution possible

In exceptional cases, the AUAF staff organizing the 21+-entrance examination may decide to derogate from this cancellation policy (e.g. in case of exceptional personal circumstances).
