Perspectives of Research Instrument

'Research' can mean different things depending on the context. Although there are different labels for research-related work in English, other languages do not always have words to make this distinction. This tool and workshop guide help to distinguish between different types of research.

The explanation of the instrument by researcher and lecturer Linda van Ooijen-van der Linden.

‘Research’ can mean different things according to the context. While in English there are several labels for research-related work, other languages do not always have words to make these distinctions. The Perspectives of Research instrument helps distinguish between three different research ‘modes’ in order of the amount of complexity and research skills that they require: scholarship, inquiry, and research. Understanding these differences can help your team choose the mode of research that fits your team and assignment best.

The Higher Education, Research and Innovation (HERI) research grouphas developed tools and workshops to discuss research integration  with your team. These instruments help you discuss different perspectives, define what 'quality' means for you, and what kind of research is appropriate for your context.
