Admission requirements
To join Sport Studies – track ISMB you must meet the diploma and English requirements and take part in the selection process. On this page you can check what you need and how to prepare.
What you need to start Sport Studies – track ISMB
Use this checklist to see if you meet the requirements:
- You have a secondary school diploma that gives access to higher education.
- You meet the English language requirements.
- You take part in the selection procedure.
- You complete a sport medical examination before the start of the programme.
Secundary school diploma
Dutch diploma
You can start the programme with:
- HAVO diploma
- VWO diploma
- MBO level 4 diploma (no exemptions granted for subjects already obtained at MBO level)
Non-Dutch diploma
You qualify if you hold a secondary school diploma that gives access to higher education in your own country.
Examples include:
- International Baccalaureate
- British A levels
- German (Fach)Abitur
- French Baccalauréat
When you apply for the Sport Studies programme with a non-Dutch diploma your credentials will be evaluated by AUAS Admissions. Once enrolled, you will automatically receive an invitation to provide certified copies of your diploma and certificates. Visit our credential evaluation page for more information.
21+ admission test
If you do not hold an eligible diploma and you are 21 or older, you can apply for the 21+ admission route. You will take an 21+ entrance test to show you meet the required level.
English requirements
Sport Studies is taught in English. You must show that your English skills match the required level.
You do not need to submit a test if you finished secondary or post-secondary education at an accredited institution where English was the language of instruction. This must be completed within the last 5 years.
If this does not apply, you must submit an English test.
Accepted English tests
If the exemption does not apply, upload one of the following results (taken within the past 12 months):
- IELTS Academic: minimum 6.0, no sub-score below 6.0
- TOEFL: minimum 550 (paper-based), 213 (computer-based) or 80 (internet-based); no sub-score below 20

These English requirements apply to all students, both Dutch and international.
Selection process
Sport Studies – track ISMB has a limited number of places. All applicants must join the selection process. This includes:
- a short video
- an online interview

Sport medical examination
Before you start the programme you also need to have passed a sport medical examination at an independent organisation of sport medical professionals in the Netherlands.

After you register in Studielink, you receive an email with the next steps.
