Exchange in Amsterdam

Students with international ambitions and a passion for business should consider to do their exchange in Amsterdam at the faculty of Business and Economics.

Founded in 1846, the faculty has a proud history of first-rate business education. About 14,000 students are currently enrolled at the faculty. Each year the faculty of Business and Economics of the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences receives about 400 exchange students. They study for one or two semesters under the terms of a bilateral agreement between our faculty and their home university.

The top quality teaching staff and facilities are all located in the buzzing city of Amsterdam, one of Europe's prime business hubs. There is no better place to continue building your international network. Your exchange in Amsterdam will be an unforgettable experience!

Flyer and Factsheet

Partner institutes can use our flyer and factsheet to promote our university to exchange students. Please contact incoming.fbe@hva.nl if you would like to obtain hard copies of the flyer.

Nomination form

Partner universities will be send a nomination letter including instructions when the nomination form opens.

  • Our online nomination form for the Fall semester will open every March.
  • Our online nomination form for Spring semester will open every September.

Nomination deadlines

  • The nomination deadline for the Fall semester is 15 April.
  • The nomination deadline for the Spring semester is 15 October.

Application deadlines

  • The application deadline for the Fall semester is 25 April.
  • The application deadline for the Spring semester is 25 October.

Application instructions

All nominated and accepted students will receive instructions to submit their online application in the Students Come and Go Portal. All nominees need to prepare the following documents for their online application:

  1. Copy of a valid passport or EU ID card (has to be valid for the entire stay in the Netherlands)
  2. Copy of an official transcript of records in English
  3. Official approved study plan and back up plan. Please read the course enrolment checklist.
  4. Proof of health insurance in the Netherlands. Students can also upload this later (but before arrival in the Netherlands). Students are responsible for their own insurance!

  • We recommend AON insurance: https://www.aonstudentinsurance.com/students/en/
  • EU students do not need extra health insurance. They can obtain an European Health Insurance Card, which simplifies the process of receiving medical assistance during their stay in a European Union member state. Check with your insurance company/health service.

  • The online course catalogue for Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 is available here
  • All courses that the AUAS offers for exchange students are at bachelor level year 3 and year 4
  • Students with strict academic requirements or students who are in their graduation year should be aware that it is not guaranted that you will be placed in the courses which you are required to take, due to the limited places available in each course. Students should take this into account when they intend to study here and realise that it might occur that not all your study requirements can be met.

Visa and residence permit

Students who wish to come to The Netherlands to study at the faculty of Business and Economics, have to check if they need a visa or residence permit. More information about visa procedures can be found on the Immigration page.

Housing

AUAS International Student Housing offers assistance in finding housing for exchange students for a period of minimum 1 semester and maximum 2 semesters. More details can be found on the housing website.

Arrival in the Netherlands

The AUAS Arrival Team aims to create a soft landing for international students. Students can start preparing their arrival in the Netherlands by checking out the the arrival day website. We highly recommend students to attend the pre-arrival webinar that the Arrival Team holds before the start of every semester.

COVID-19

ACE Society

At the AUAS Faculty of Business and Economics there is an international student society called ACE Society. Exchange students are welcome to join the ACE Society community, which is driven by social, cultural and educational events. They are the perfect way for international students to learn about the Dutch culture and to meet people! They also offer a buddy program. See more information on their website.

ESN Amsterdam

Erasmus Student Network Amsterdam is a student-run non-profit organization dedicated to helping international students studying at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) and Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS) to make the most of their stay in the Netherlands. Before the start of every semester they organize an Introduction Week which is a great start for the student's exchange experience to be introduced to Amsterdam and to make friends!
